West Highlands & Oban

West Highlands & Oban

Day One: From Edinburgh, we pass over the Firth of Forth, with views of the stunning Forth Bridge, quite simply the most beautiful bridge in the world, and an UNESCO World Heritage site. We then head towards the Stirling area (the ancient capital of Scotland) and stop at Doune Castle, which has appeared in many films and television shows including Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones, and most recently, Outlander. We will visit the picturesque town of Callander, the gateway to the Highlands, for short stop. We then enter the majestic Scottish Highlands, passing through Rannoch Moor with lunch in the stunning Glencoe. After lunch, we head up the scenic Appin Coast where we can view Castle Stalker, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. Our destination will be the seaside town of Oban.

Overnight stay in Oban

Day Two: Our first stop will be a viewpoint of McCaig’s Tower, an unfinished but beautiful monument overlooking Oban and the Hebridean islands of Kerrera and Mull. We start our drive south to Kilmartin Glen, and the ancient capital of the country of Dalriada. Here, you may place your foot on top of a hill fort where the ancient kings of Scotland were anointed as protectors of their people, their land and their sea. Around the peninsula to our lunch stop in the town of Inveraray, home of Clan Campbell. As we head back toward your drop off point we go through the awe inspiring ‘Rest and be Thankful’ before our final stop at Scotland’s most recognised loch – Loch Lomond.
